The sentinel of Whitefish Bay, where Superior's worst winter storms piled ships onto the shore. For a hundred years its white tower led freighters past the graveyard; the light was switched off in 1971 when a beacon went up on the Canadian side. The tower is a museum now, and the Indian name lives on: Iroquois Point, first landfall for the iron ore boats.
