The castle on the Strait — a cream-brick tower rising out of its stone keepers' quarters, watching the treacherous two-mile crossing under the Mackinac Bridge. From 1892 to 1957 it burned red, flashing every ten seconds, one of the last of the Great Lakes' steam-age stations. Decommissioned, but its restored light is relit on special nights.
