On the very northwestern tip of the lower 48 — Makah country, where the Strait of Juan de Fuca meets the open Pacific. Built in 1857 with a first-order lens; its light carries 20 miles out past the wildest headland in Washington. Today the Makah Tribe keepers watch over it.
